Abstract
The millets contain 7-12% protein, 2-5% fat, 65- 75% carbohydrates and 15-20% dietary fibre. Millets are natural source of iron, zinc, calciumand other nutrients that are essential for curbing the problem of malnutrition in India. Millets contain slow releasing glucose and have low glycemicindex. Which play a important role in fighting the problem of diabetes. Recently millets are receiving increasing spotlight in combating diabetesas a dietary option. With an objective of synthesising many studies on effect of millet based food mixes and to arrive at statistically valid estimateof effect, a meta-analysis of available literature conducted. The systematic review procedure resulted in 16 unique studies related to effect of milletbased food mixes on diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
