Abstract
The study was carried out in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. In this study we will find the post-harvest losses in Litchi. Post-harvest lossesare one of the main reasons for the decreasing production of litchi. Litchi is very perishable fruit crop as its shelf life is about 3-4 days afterharvesting. In this study post-harvest losses were seen under 3 channels of marketing. Channel I consist have least no. of intermediaries(Producer- Consumer), channel II has Producer-wholesaler-retailer-consumer and Channel III have Producer-Village Trader- WholesalerRetailer. The losses are seen at farm level, wholesaler level, village trader level and retailer level in all three channels. The maximum loss wasin channel III (30 kg/quintal) followed by channel II (29.25 kg/ quintal) and channel 1 (4.25 kg/ quintal). The losses in channel III were highestdue to maximum no. of intermediaries.
