Abstract
The choice of lac insects for settlement on type of branch depends on thickness and quality of branch as well as the availability and quality of phloem sap. Commercially lac is produced on host trees viz., Butea monosperma Lam. Taub., Schleichera oleosa (Lour.) Oken. and Zizyphus mauritiana Lam. However, lac production on annual shrubs like Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. is a new venture in Madhya Pradesh. The preference of lac insect for type of branch on C. cajan for its settlement is not reported. The present two year field trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of foliar nutrient application on C. cajan for preferential selection of branches by Kerria lacca Kerr. Lac insects of baisakhi crop of rangeeni lac was reared on C. cajan in the year 2019-20 and 2020-21.
