Abstract
Redgram (Cajanus Cajan) was the major Kharif crop cultivated in North Eastern Region of Karnataka accounting 25.53 per cent of totalcropped area in watershed areas and 28.62 per cent of non-watershed areas. Hence, through this research paper an attempt was made tostudy the economics of redgram cultivation in comparison of watershed and non-watershed areas of NEK region. For the study, total samplesize was 240 respondents of which, 120 were watershed farmers and 120 were non watershed farmers. The simple tabular analysis, CobbDouglus production function were applied for deriving the meaningful conclusion of the analysis. It was observed that inputs like seeds,fertilizer, human labour, machine labour, plant protection chemical etc., were utilized higher in watershed areas than non-watershed areas.The higher utilization of inputs leads to higher cost of cultivation in watershed areas but the yield was also high in watershed areas.
