Abstract
Soybean is one of the important oilseed crops of India and Karnataka. In India it is cultivated on 11.39 m ha with a production of 13.79 m tat a productivity of over 1.2 t ha-1. Karnataka ranks seventh in production of soybean with an area of 270,000 hectares with a production of1.73 m t at a productivity of 745 kg ha-1. Soybean being a short durated crop (80-100 days) grown mainly during Kharif under rainfedsituation, the yields are greatly influenced by the onset, progress and withdrawal of South West monsoon. As South-West monsoon rainfalland temperature greatly vary over space and time, it is important to study the performance of soybean across difference districts of northinterior Karnataka (NIK).
