Abstract
Solar water pump is a type of water pumping system that works wherever there is abundant supply of sunlight. The portable solarphotovoltaic system is designed and developed for assessing the performance of pump to lift the water upto 40 meter head from watersources like well, farm pond and other sources in order to fill the overhead tank. The developed system was run directly on electricitygenerated by the solar arrays without battery. The pump performance characteristics Viz. array efficiency, pump efficiency and overallefficiency of pumping system and pump discharge at different heads were calculated and the interaction among solar insolation, ambient &panel temperature and efficiencies of the pumping system during summer, winter and monsoon season was also measured and correlatedeach other.
