Abstract
Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the important food grains in our country. Shelling is the most important post-harvest operation in maize cropfor enhancing the quality and quantity of maize seeds. The present study was undertaken to develop the manually operated tubular maizesheller to reduce the drudgery of marginal farmers. The performance of the manually operated maize sheller was evaluated with traditionalshelling methods viz.,tubular maize shelling and hand shelling. The effect of different performance parameters like output capacity, brokengrain damage percentage, and threshing efficiency were discussed. The output capacity, shelling efficiency and grain damage of manuallyoperated maize sheller were 60.50 kg/h, 99.10 %, and 0.0067 % respectively. The output capacity was found 4-5 times more than that ofhand shelling and tubular shelling. Also the shelling efficiency observed to be satisfactory than that of traditional shelling meth...
