Abstract
The present study was conducted to evaluate gene action and combining ability for seed yield and its attributing traits in sunflower throughline x tester analysis with 50 hybrids, developed from ten testers and five diversified cytoplasmic male sterile lines from Helianthusargophyllus and H. annuus, at experimental field area of ZARS, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India. Observations on yieldand its attributing traits were recorded. Analysis of variance due to different sources was found to be significant both in hybrids and parentsfor all the quantitative traits studied. Among the lines; ARG-2-1-2 was observed to have higher significant negative gca effects for days to50% flowering and hull content which is desirable. Higher significant positive gca effects for oil content and seed yield were recorded forlines ARG-6-3-1-4 and ARG-2-1-2.
