Abstract
Crop plan for Yavatmal taluka of Maharastra state was prepared based on the climatic water balance and length of growing period. Waterbalance parameters and LGP were determined for the period 1998-2017. Based on LGP, available rainfall and crop evapotranspiration inthe critical growing stages of the crop, crop planning was done. Under average rainfall condition, the LGP could be as high as 182 daysextending from 24 to 50 SMW. On an average LGP for Yavatmal taluka is estimated as 23 weeks (162 days). All existing rainfedcrops i.e. soybean, cotton, jowar, pigeon pea, black gram and green gram were found suitable to grow in Yavatmal taluka as there would notbe shortage of available soil moisture during critical growth stages of these crops.
