Abstract
Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp) is an important pulse crop in India. Exploitation of heterosis is one of the important breeding options for breaking yield barrier. It offers great possibilities in crop improvement programme and is the only effective conventional means of combining desirable characters of two or more varieties. Breeding programmes in Pigeonpea are oriented to develop new varieties which have high yield potential and resistance to pests and diseases. The standard and better parent hetrosis were estimated for yield and contributing characters in Pigeonpea [Canjanus cajan(L.) Millsp] for twelve yield and yield contributing characters, the analysis of variance revealed that there were significant differences among the parents and crosses for the characters studied. The crosses viz., BDN 2004-1 x BDNHR 35-6, BDN 2004-3 x BDNHR 35-6, BDN 2004-3 x BDNHR 36-3 and BSMR 736 x BDNHR 35-6 had significant heterobeltiosis and ...
