Abstract
The maize crop has the potential to generate better income, gainful employment and would help in earning higher income, due to relatively sustainable and stable prices particularly in Karnataka, the production and productivity needs to be enhanced in the state with greater effort not only for food security but also for income security of the farmers since reeling under hardship due to vagaries of climate. In this paper an attempt has been made to assess the technical efficiency in production maize crops, one of the leading cereal crops in Karnataka, The results reveals that mean technical efficiency among the local maize variety and improved maize variety growing farms are same, however, varied at disaggregated level, Access to information, higher educational attainment and adoption of proper management practices by the farmers plays greater role in improving the technical efficiency among the farmers.
