Abstract
In the present study, an attempt has been made to know the Price trend and Export Competitiveness of Onion in India for the period 1985-86 to 2014-15. For the overall period of study, very previous years onion crop has shown continuously increasing trends for all decades. The UAE and Bangladesh were stable market for onion exports from India. New emerging markets can be encouraged and existing markets in Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Mauritius strengthened. The NPC values of onion calculated for overall period 1985-86 to 2014-15 is 0.61 indicating high export competitiveness. Most of the exporters expressed phyto-sanitary problems, lack of demands from importing countries, lack of export promotional measures and lack of infrastructural facilities as the major obstacles which impede the export of onion.
