Abstract
The present study used the secondary data collected from secondary sources. The results showed that the area under samai, varagu and thenai were decreased by 54.14 percent, 76.99 per cent and 60.84 per cent respectively in Tamil Nadu. The growth rate for area and production were negative and positive for productivity of varagu and thenai. The area and its interaction effect with yield were found to be responsible for decrease in the production of minor millets in Tamil Nadu. The change in production of minor millets is high rather than area and productivity. The study identified that maize was more stable crop and during the period of least 10 years, the area under major millets was shifted to minor millets in Tamil Nadu. Any single crop did not retain its area throughout the period in Tamil Nadu, but the acreage of the crop was continuously shifting from one crop to other crop throughout the period.
