Abstract
Agricultural value chain encompasses the flow of products, knowledge and information between smallholder farmers and consumers. In an effective value chain, people at different stages of the chain actively support each other. Chilli farmers face problems in post harvest loss, price fluctuation and low productivity. Farmers need to better engage with the value chains in order to gain added value for improving their livelihoods. Hence the present study proposed with the objective of tracing the value chain and suggesting measures to improve the efficiency of the traced chain. The study was conducted in the major chilli growing districts including Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar. Developing high yielding varieties with high colour and heat value could be identified to meet the demand from processors.
