Abstract
A study was conducted to find out the livestock status of Saraitoli, a tribal village in Ranchi district, Jharkhand. The survey was carried out among all 56 households of this village with help of pre-structured schedule. The average livestock status reared per household was recorded 24.68 with total livestock valuation of the village was estimated Rs.32,61,360/- and average value of each household Rs.58,238.57/-. The maximum value was calculated for buffaloes of Rs.53,428.57/- followed by cows (Rs.47,031.25/-) and lowest for hen(Rs.1632/-).The non-descript cattle produce less milk (average 1.5 kg milk/cow).However, the buffaloes produce comparatively more milk (average 2.5 kg/ buffalo). The analysis of data revealed that out of 56 families 33.93%, 87.5%, 19.64% and 96.43% did not rear cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep, respectively.
