Abstract
In the present study, two bacterial isolates were selected on the basis of the color of the colony. Pigment producing microbes were isolatedfrom Sea water (Dahanu Beach) and Irrigated Soil (K.K.W. Agriculture College farm, Puria Park, Nashik). Light Orange and the white coloredcolony was observed from the sea water sample while Red, Yellow, Green colonies were observed in Irrigated Soil sample. During incubation, more intense pigmentation was observed on 3rd day. After incubation, isolates produced appealing colors: orange (O) and Pink (PK). Theantimicrobial assay revealed that there was no clear zone of inhibition around the wells containing pigments suggesting there was noantimicrobial property in the pigments. The radical scavenging activity for the crude methanolic extract was determined through DPPH,reductive power and total antioxidant activities. Further these pigments were taken for purification and bio-prospecting studies.
