Abstract
AbstractNational Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) scheme was launched in 2011 with an agenda to reach out and mobilize 70 million below povertyline (BPL) households into self-managed self-help groups (SHG) and federal institutions and to support them through livelihood collectives.Whether the SHGs are able to attain the stated objectives, an empirical study entitled, “Role of the National Rural Livelihood Mission SelfHelp Groups on Economic Empowerment in the Jammu Region†was undertaken. The study was conducted purposively in selected Jammuand Samba districts in the Jammu region of the state Jammu and Kashmir. Out of a total of 670 SHGs, a sample of 20 SHGs, 10 from eachpurposively selected Dansal block of Jammu district and Ghagwal block of Samba district were selected employing random samplingtechnique without replacement.
