Abstract
Objective: To determine the antibiotic prophylaxis in preventing surgical site infection in patients undergoing Lichtenstein’shernioplasty.Study design: Observational studyPlace and Duration: Department of surgery, ISRA University Hospital, Hyderabad. from December 2015 to March 2017.Materials and Methods: 120 cases of inguinal hernia planned for Lichtenstein’s hernioplasty were selected according toexclusion criteria and divided into control and antibiotic group. Pre- operative patient history, physical examination andinguinal hernia examination was performed. Prophylactic antibiotic ceftriaxone (1000 mg) was given over night of surgicalprocedure.
