Abstract
Given the importance of sexuality in the daily life of every human being and the notable risks associated with precocious sexual activity, such as sexually transmitted diseases and undesired pregnancy, it has become increasingly important to understand human sexual behavior and its development, beginning with infatuation and ending in coitus, and the links between these sexual behaviors and the quality of primary family relationships. The present investigation is based on a sample of 6,862 secondary students (55.2% men; 44.8% women; 15-20 years old) from twenty-one public and private secondary schools in Quito and Machala, Ecuador, and utilized a self-designed questionnaire to measure the quality of the adolescent-parent relationship and the frequency of various sexual behaviors.
