Abstract
This study analyzes the perceptions of Luis Fernando Ruiz High School' students on the development of argument in wrItten works. It is a qualitative approach, since it deals with a social fact, such as the knowledge of the elements of written argument, whose application is fundamental in argumentative texts. Regarding the knowledge of the elements of written argument, the investigated do not know: thesis, premises, enthymemes, counterarguments, evidentiary proofs, argumentative body and fallacies. In therms. of applications of these, a high percentage do not apply them: the statement of premises, conclusions in short argumentative texts; nor the thesis, introduction, support based on data, evidentiary proofs, and the use of arguments of authority in long argumentative texts.
