Abstract
This paper seeks to provide a comprehensive view of periods, stages, steps that marked significantly the relations between Portugal and its former colonies, amid decolonization and institutionalization of CPLP. It identifies continuities and ruptures, actors and events, and concepts that marked the context of the creation and emergence of CPLP, focusing particularly on the relationship between national identity and foreign policy and the centrality of the colonial issue in this relationship.
