Abstract
Efficiency of sole cowpea production in Gombi Zone of Adamawa State Agricultural Development Programme, Nigeria was examined. Primary data were collected through the administration of structured questionnaires to 140 sole cowpea farmers using multi-stage random sampling technique. Data collected were analyzed using stochastic frontier production and cost functions. The Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) of the parameters of the stochastic frontier production function of sole cowpea farmers revealed that, farm size, family labour and agrochemicals were significant and positively related to cowpea output. The mean technical efficiency (TE) was 0.75 with minimum and maximum technical efficiencies of 0.19 and 0.95.
