Best Energy Option Selection using Fuzzy Multi-criteria Decision Making Approach

Abstract
This study presents application of a Fuzzy Multi-criteria Decision Making Method for selection of best energy source for Electricity Generation in India. A ranking was obtained for eight energy options which included conventional and renewable energy sources with small hydro power coming at the top. The ranking was compared with results of a study based on techno-economic analysis which also ranked small hydro power as the best option hence the conclusion that it is the best energy option for India. The two rankings showed statistical correlation value of 0.357, which is a healthy value for a country-wide study, hence validating the use of this fuzzy method for selection of best energy option. Index Terms— Energy options, Techno-economic analysis, Fuzzy, Multi-criteria, Correlation
