Abstract
Hypochondriasis or illnes anxiety is a complex disorder that is difficult to identify, which generates serious emotional, family and social consequences in those who suffer from it, constituting a public health problem. Due to its complexity, hypochondriasis is resistant to treatment, presenting a low recovery rate. Traditionally, pharmacotherapy has been recommended as the most effective therapeutic intervention for this disorder, relegating it to psychotherapy. Objective: To know the efficacy of psychotherapy compared to pharmacotherapy in the treatment of hypochondriasis in adults. Methodology: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) was used. Studies comparing pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy in the treatment of hypochondriasis were selected.
